Summer Enhancement Session
The Summer Enhancement Session will be indispensible to the overall academic success of our students. We strongly believe that the additional time that the students will spend will provide them the additional time necessary for them to compensate for the deficiencies that they will possess when they enroll in the Nashville Global Academy. The additional time spent in classes during June and July will help to ensure that our students overcome their deficiencies, retain new knowledge and excel academically. During the Summer Enhancement Session, the students will continue to immerse themselves in the Nashville Global Academy’s culture of academic excellence, independent, critical thinking and effective problem-solving. Following are summaries of the Summer Enhancement Session.
In June of each year, new students who have been accepted for entry into the Nashville Global Academy will embark on an exciting and challenging journey. These new students will be administered an appropriate diagnostic or criterion-referenced assessment and begin an intensive orientation to the NGA culture. They will learn about the organizational culture and the NGA family-oriented community, the mission, goals, values and characteristics that each will be expected to develop – a desire to excel academically, pride, self-esteem, dedication, discipline, independence, and confidence. Among the topics that will be covered during the orientation classes are the following topics:
- History of the Nashville Global Academy
- The Nashville Global Academy community, culture and expectations
- The qualities of an ideal Nashville Global Academy student
- NGA Code of Conduct and Honor Code
- Teambuilding
- Asking for help or assistance
- Setting Goals
- Time Management
- Technology Usage
In addition to the orientation classes, students will have classes in reading, English, mathematics and science. These classes will include a variety of learning activities that capture students’ attention, are enjoyable and promote the acquisition of knowledge and skills to help the students overcome their weaknesses or deficiencies. Content will be age-appropriate and for example, include atypical activities using the stock market, contemporary literature, baseball physics, music of the world, and history of hip hop movement. A variety of Board games such as scrabble and chess, as well as computer programs will be utilized.
Beginning in 2010, continuing students will be afforded the opportunity to attend Summer Enhancement Sessions to acquire in-depth knowledge of selected subjects, which will be determined based upon student needs.
