Menus and Food Services

The Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools’ Food Service Department serves more than 6.5 million lunches and 2.3 million breakfasts during the school year.  The Food and Nutritional Services program at Nashville Global Academy is an extension of the programs of the school system.  The program is funded under the National School Lunch Act and Child Nutrition Act.  The United States Department of Agriculture administers federal laws regulating the food program through the regional office and by the Tennessee State Department of Education.

The Food Service program is designed to support the education of the students in the MNPS school district by providing nutritious, well-balanced meals that a diverse group of students will enjoy at a reasonable price that they can afford.  The menus are planned by a Registered Dietitian and many items are tested by the students.  The students are our customers and without them we would not be here.  We strongly believe that we are Feeding Our Future.

In accordance with Federal law and U.S. Department of Agriculture policy, this institution is prohibited from discriminating on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability.

The Nashville Global Academy is an Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer.

Importance of Breakfast

menu and food   The Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools Food Service Department provides breakfast daily in all schools. Eating breakfast regularly benefits both the child and the school.  Children who eat breakfast are more alert and less tired during the day and have a better chance to do well in school. Breakfast makes the difference in the way children look, the way they feel, and the way they grow and learn. There are fewer discipline problems among children who start their day with a good breakfast. Children seldom make up at other meals foods they miss at breakfast.  Breakfast is the key to good nutrition. The calories and iron provided by the school breakfast program fills one-third of a child's daily needs for these important nutrients. No one food contains all the nutrients which young bodies need. However, the components of the breakfast program used together supply many of the nutrients necessary for the development of children.

The school breakfast pattern is as follows:

Breakfast Menu Pattern

Fruit or Vegetable -1/2 cup
Milk - 8 fluid ounces
Two servings of Bread/Grains
(or)
One Serving of Bread/Grains and One ounce of Meat

Eating breakfast at school is a smart choice meal deal.  When children are eligible for a free or reduced-priced breakfast, they are also entitled to a free or reduced-priced lunch.
